Announcing auditions for our Fall 2021 musical: Cinderella! Regional Performing Arts is excited to be planning our first “return” show since going completely digital in 2020.
Auditions: July 7, 2021, 5-8 p.m. by appointment
Regional Performing Arts, Portage
Show Dates: September 17-19 and 24-26, 2021
Performance Venue: Highland High School Auditorium
Rehearsal Location: Regional Performing Arts, Portage
(both show dates and venue may be subject to small changes)
Actors should prepare no more than 1 minute of singing for their audition and dress comfortably to participate in a short dance portion. If unavailable for the July 7th audition date, actors may submit a video audition via Casting Manager. Check out these tips on a successful video audition.
Age restrictions? All roles in this production will be filled with school-aged actors 18 and under. We recommend students no younger than 6 audition. All actors should be comfortable reading and following direction.
Covid-19 Precautions
For auditions, actors will be participating in small group dances and singing for our directors. All families should wear a mask upon entering the Regional Performing Arts Center and while waiting. Actors will be asked to remove their masks for their vocal audition and permitted to remove masks while learning and performing the dance portion. With the development of current CDC guidelines, it is our plan that all actors will be unmasked onstage for the production in September. More detailed information will be disseminated upon casting, but actors who are fully vaccinated will be permitted to rehearse fully without masks.
Both Regional Performing Arts and the Cinderella directing staff take the treatment of our actors’ health seriously and policies during production will change to reflect guidance from the CDC and Indiana State Government.
About the Show
The timeless enchantment of a magical fairy tale is reborn with the Rodgers & Hammerstein hallmarks of originality, charm and elegance. Originally presented on television in 1957 starring Julie Andrews, Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella was the most widely viewed program in the history of the medium. Its recreation in 1965 starring Lesley Ann Warren was no less successful in transporting a new generation to the miraculous kingdom of dreams-come-true, and so was a second remake in 1997, which starred Brandy as Cinderella and Whitney Houston as her Fairy Godmother. As adapted for the stage, with great warmth and more than a touch of hilarity, this romantic fairy tale still warms the hearts of children and adults alike. This Enchanted Edition is inspired by the 1997 teleplay.
